On this day Sherborne Silks, a Women's Soft Ball Cricket Team, based at Sherborne Cricket Club, Gainsborough Hill, Sherborne, will be hosting a Women's Soft Ball Cricket Festival, which is open to any women aged 13+ whether they have played cricket before or not.
There will be between 80 and 100 women attending, all from different backgrounds and sporting abilities. Even within our own team we have players aged 13 - 50+ and players who, until very recently hadn't even picked up a cricket bat.
As a team, Sherborne Silks, were set up by Caroline Durston in 2017, and are supported by the whole of Sherborne Cricket Club. The Senior men's teams are particularly supportive and have helped to coach and encourage us over the past year. Even some of the younger players have stayed on, after their practice, to help us.
Women's Soft Ball Cricket, itself, was set up, in England, last year by the ECB as a way of encouraging more women into sport. Thousands of women, took part in hundreds of festivals last year and, this year Sherborne are hosting their first ever Festival.
Any woman, whether already part of a team, or not, can enter into the festivals and can expect a really friendly welcome.
There will be, not only 4 matches playing at once, but also a BBQ, family friendly activities, coaches on hand to give out tips and the guarantee of smiling faces and lots of fun.
If you would like any more information about the festival then please contact myself, or Caroline Durston (our coach, player, junior team coach and Welfare Officer) at SherborneCricketClub@outlook.com. You can find out more about the festivals in general from the Dorset County Cricket Board website and the ECB website.
